DETAILS
NURTUREart will be hosting a panel discussion with Patterns Of Growth artists Sarah Dobkin, Monique Ford, Amy Kupferberg, Jackie Meier, Jeanne Thomsen, and Beatrice Wolert. Curators Melissa Staiger and Susan Ross will also be present.
In our video space we will be screening a video detailing Amy Kupferberg's intensive creative process involved in creating her large-scale welded wax and paper constructions:
Amy M. Kupferberg marries a Mig Welder with layers of combustible paper to create images of depth and transcendence. In her work, an electrified copper wire is fed from the tip of the welding gun, and as the wire touches the steel, an electrical arc occurs, producing enough heat to fuse the steel together, and create images in the layers of destruction. She states, "A fire is started with each weld; each is an offering intended to uncover another beautiful truth, the top sheet is an artifact of the process to document the destruction of my materials. I regard the sheets beneath as fossils of the incandescent event."
Stick around after the panel discussion to celebrate Armory Arts Week, part of the 2009 Armory Fair, which is being held March 5-8. Armory Arts Week will offer free, public art events throughout the city, and each night will have a different theme. Saturday, March 7th is 'Brooklyn Art Evening.' All Williamsburg Gallery Assosciation galleries, including NURTUREart, will be open late, and the WGA will be hosting an Armory after-party. Visit the armory website for more information:
